As of the 26th March... I'm gutted, I was going to have Colin & Connie as my cakes. Plus it was saving me hundreds!
What a sad day.

Their cakes look very similar to Waitrose, definitely worth having a look on their website.
janebee4 · 11/03/2020 22:33
WHAT. I am just about controlling my anxiety that coronavirus is going to force the cancellation/postponement of my May wedding but this really takes the biscuit. I've seen so many people with these cakes, why would they do this?!?! But thank you for the heads up, I will look at Waitrose!
JorisBonson · 13/03/2020 09:23
@janebee4 same here!! I have even tweeted and emailed to try to make them stop 😂
Waitrose do a fairly decent naked cake but then I've got the faff of decorating it.

Oh no.
If I ever got married I wanted the bird cage cake.
MyAuntyBadger · 13/03/2020 09:28
That's a shame. My daughter's getting married in July and we were having a M & S cake. I wonder why they're discontinuing, I thought they were really popular. I'll have a look at Waitrose.

Well that's quite annoying. Sneaking off to the registry office is looking ever more attractive.

I had a M&S wedding cake (fruit with royal icing). It was admired by everyone and they all thought it was a homemade one. We bought the same one for Baptism as well.
What a shame. I might have to buy a small one as a reminder of how delicious it was.
MaomiMak · 13/03/2020 10:03
Waitrose look lush

They are nice, but none are caterpillar shaped.

M&S are still doing the regular giant caterpillars, so I'm going to just get those. However, we're starting to get people cancel for our May wedding due to coronavirus so maybe won't be getting a cake at all!

most supermarkets do plain fruit cakes im sure tesco does an iced cake as for caterpillars again most places do them in the birthday section nice to have something bit different from cup cakes and traditional wedding cake.
CheriLittlebottom · 13/03/2020 14:11
That's a surprise, I would have thought a lot of people bought them. We had a lovely chocolate tiered one when we got married. Maybe it's not volume of sales, but cost to make vs. sale price just isn't worth it?
timeforawine · 13/03/2020 14:16
Please tell me they are not stopping the normal Connie????
FairfaxAikman · 13/03/2020 14:25
We had a M&S one as they are really good value, tasted good and we refused to spend ££££ on something no one would remember much.
BiBiBirdie · 13/03/2020 14:26
Do we think they will massively reduce them then? Cos you can freeze cake right?

I’ve just googled what you mean...(didn’t know Connie & Colin wedding cakes were a thing?!)
Why not just buy two caterpillar cakes (pretty much all the supermarkets do them) and decorate them to look like a bride and groom. The bride just has a bit of netting on its head! Anyone could do it.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/03/2020 14:37
I’ll let you into my secret. It’s not a wedding cake, but if you like Colin there is a cheaper M&S alternative. In our store it’s hidden on the bottom shelf. It’s a chocolate Swiss roll with chocolate gooey middle covered in hard chocolate. It’s called the Extremely chocolate roll. It’s under £2 and it’s a Colin basically.
Blue box.
You will thank me.
BiBiBirdie · 13/03/2020 15:29
Hold up is it all Wedding cakes or just those caterpillar ones?
MrsFionaCharming · 15/03/2020 22:11
Why??
When picking mine we taste tested M&S and Waitrose, and M&S were far superior. We got married in August and I was looking forward to buying a taster sized one for DH and I to eat on our anniversary 😭

I'm thinking I'm going to buy the Costco sheet cakes then and make my own
amazedmummy · 16/03/2020 10:20
That's a shame our M&S wedding cake was incredible. My sister is engaged and was planning on having one.
Doobigetta · 17/03/2020 20:34
We had a Waitrose naked chocolate cake with salted caramel filling. Decorated it myself on the morning of the wedding, with creme fraiche and berries. Looked lovely, tasted great, cost about £120.
JorisBonson · 17/03/2020 20:53
Doob that sounds amazing, how many did it serve?
Although our registry office closed its doors today because of CV so God knows if I'll even need a cake.

Doobigetta · 20/03/2020 18:41
The cake “proper” was a three tiered one that I think was supposed to serve 48. We had 60 guests so we bought a cutting bar as well so bring out if we ran out. It didn’t, there was absolutely loads left. It was unexpectedly about 25 degrees on the day of our wedding so most people were roasting and I suspect didn’t eat as much as they might have done otherwise.
Will you need to/be able to reschedule, Joris? I feel so sad for anyone with a wedding planned for this spring or summer, it must be so stressful for you. Hope you can work something out
