What are parrot tulips?

Parrot tulips are the most show-stopping of tulip varieties, instantly recognisable for their bright shades, two-toned petals, and unique shapes. They are often described as having a feathered, serrated, or ruffled appearance, and are the largest of all tulip floral varieties.

How long do cut parrot tulips last?

Cut parrot tulips have a vase life of around 5-7 days. There are some ways you can try and keep your parrot tulips looking beautiful for longer, including keeping your vase topped up with clean, fresh water, placing your tulips out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, and maintaining a cool room temperature.

How do you prepare parrot tulips for vases?

Preparing your cut parrot tulips for a vase can help prolong their beauty and vase life. Follow these simple steps to get yours off to a good start:
1. Re-trim your parrot tulip stems about 2 - 3cm from the bottom at a 45° angle. This will help to encourage water absorption.
2. Remove all foliage that will sit below the waterline to avoid contamination.
3. Fill your vase with fresh, clean water and replace daily. Top up with FLOWERBX Flower Food.

How long can cut parrot tulips stay out of water?

Cut parrot tulips are thirsty flowers, and cannot be out of water for too long. Cut parrot tulips will not last more than a few hours at the most without water, so it is important to keep them hydrated. To prolong the life of your cut parrot tulips when not in a vase, you can wrap the stems in a wet cloth or paper towel, or attach individual water sources to the end of the stems.

How do you keep cut parrot tulips from drooping?

There are some tried-and-tested ways to keep your cut parrot tulips from drooping in their vase, although here at FLOWERBX, we love the life of their own tulips stems take!
- Always keep your stems hydrated in cool, clean water.
- Remove foliage below the water line on arrival.
- Re-cut your parrot tulip stems at a 45-degree angle to help them absorb more water.
- Keep topped up with FLOWERBX flower food.
- Choose a vase style at least half as tall as your stems.
- Avoid heat sources, drafts, and extreme temperatures.
- Add a penny to your vase - the copper helps keep their stems straight!

What kind of vase do you use for parrot tulips?

When selecting a vase for your cut parrot tulips, consider the length and weight of your stems. Your parrot tulip stems will need to be supported, so their vase should be at least half as tall as your tulip stems. We would recommend our Royal Windsor Vase or Tall Wickstead Vase for longer stems, or our Wickstead Pot for when tulips are cut down below eye level.

What colours do parrot tulips come in

Parrot tulips are well known to be the brightest and boldest of all tulips. Their unique shape and style makes them true show-stoppers, so you'll see parrot tulips in every shade of the rainbow, as well as stiped, two toned, and ombre varieties. Expect to see palettes including red, violet, yellow, orange, pink, green and near black.

What do parrot tulips symbolise

Parrot tulips are widely known to symbolise a fight for survival, due to their birth out of mutation. Like all tulips, they also symbolise pure and deep love, with a unique twist! Similarly, differing shades hold their own meanings:
White tulips show forgiveness and respect, highlighting innocence and purity.
Yellow tulips sybolise happiness, cheer, and brighter days ahead - due to their association with spring and Easter.
Red tulips mean love and romance.
Pink tulips symbolise friendship, care and good wishes.
Purple tulips symbolise regality, royalty, and rebirth.
